Welcome to the official website of

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – Iota Alpha Omega Chapter

nestled in Mid-Hudson Valley, NY

We are Iota Alpha Omega, the 375th chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, located in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Chartered on December 6, 1969, Iota Alpha Omega has proudly been of “Service to All Mankind” for well over 50+ years to the residents of the Mid-Hudson Valley and its surrounding communities.

Our chapter presents with a diverse group of college educated women whose accomplishments, backgrounds, talents / resources are as diverse as those represented.  From private and professional backgrounds to seasoned retirees, we are proud of our broad, multigenerational representation, as it affords us a greater opportunity to serve our local community and beyond.

Since our chartering, we have provided well over $135,000 in scholarships and grants to help in furthering the education and promotion of youth leadership / development. Our commitment has fostered relationships and partnerships with many other organizations and businesses.  While our programs of service have been designed to support the vision of our International focus on a local level.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was the first Greek Letter Sorority for African American women founded on the campus of Howard University on January 15, 1908.  In our 113 year legacy, our current International Program, Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service, led by our President, Dr. Glenda Glover, is a call to action and a call to service.

The five targets that support our International Program are:

  • Target 1 – HBCU for Life: A Call to Action

  • Target 2 – Women’s Healthcare and Wellness

  • Target 3 – Building Your Economic Legacy

  • Target 4 – The Arts!

  • Target 5 – Global Impact

Our signature program, #CAPSM (College Admissions Process), is a commitment to serving and supporting our high-school youth, by providing a hands-on approach that includes all steps from researching various colleges to actually completing the application process. Again, thank you for visiting our website.

We invite you to come back often to stay informed of our chapter events and to see how you can be involved in supporting our efforts of Service to All Mankind. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram where we communicate our programs, events and achievements to our members, those we serve, and those looking to serve alongside us.

I also encourage you to visit the Mid-Hudson Ivy Foundation’s website, our charitable arm at www.mhif.org. Here you can see how our Foundation supports the function of our chapter through monetary and in-kind donations from businesses, organizations, and patrons.

Yours in service,

Ms. Kim C. Jarratt
